I know I’m not alone when I say that, I am definitely not opposed to spending the odd evening or afternoon procrastinating in front of Netflix with a cuppa tea/bucket of coffee and a scrumptious snack of some sort. So, in a bid to break away from the age old excuse of “needing something to dunk” and therefore perfectly justifying the annihilation of a packet of hobnobs, I decided to do a little research into healthier snack alternatives that can be enjoyed guilt free; whilst perhaps getting in touch with my inner domestic goddess by making something myself…

I love the chunkiness of the Brazil Nut & Cherry Paleo Bar by Primal Kitchen

I took inspiration from Primal Kitchen/Nākd. and decided to take it upon myself to create my own type of raw snack. I made what I call “Raw Balls” whereby I used dates, a selection of brazil, almond, pecan, walnut and hazelnuts, desiccated coconut and cocoa powder. The dates bind the nuts together and give the mixture its chewy and delicious, naturally sweet taste and perfect sticky tecture that is required when making little balls. Instead of coconut, you could try coating them in cinnamon or cocoa powder. Pop into the fridge so the mixture hardens a little or alternatively the freezer for 10 mins! (Usually what I do because I am just too impatient!). You can always add a scoop of protein and voilà! “Protein Raw Balls”. So much more satisfying when you make it yourself!

I also looked into making my own Nutella-esque chocolate spread, as well as Sweet Potato Brownies. All of which were delicious as well as easy to make (thank god for my Vitamix blender!).

Experimenting is also the perfect way to spend a lazy rainy afternoon, or that’s what i’m telling myself anyway…
